Seven Unexpected Scriptures to Improve Marriage – Kevin A Thompson (Three)

3. “Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.” (1 John 3.18)

Talk is important in a relationship.  Men especially could do a better job of communicating their emotions and feelings.  However, love must be far more than talk.  We must demonstrate our love for one another in very concrete ways.  Kevin A Thompson

The most amazing thing that often blows my mind about Baby Girl is her capacity to love.  She just loves.  She loves me, her Dad, our pets, she is just filled with so much love.  She will think nothing of coming to me and giving me a cuddle, or a hug, or ways to show love.

Kids really do show their feelings – I don’t think they have the capacity to hide who they truly are.  They learn that from us – adults, as they grow older.

I love the fact that she will just come sit on my lap.

Or give me a hug.

There is no hesitation, or holding back, just love.

And I really think that sometimes adults need to be like that – especially spouses.  Just love, affection, doing love –  not hiding away, but doing and showing love.  A child may only know how to show love through hugs and kisses, but there are so many ways we can show love to our spouses – without saying a word: making them a cup of coffee in the mornings; getting up to greet them when they get home from work; listen to them (I mean really listen to them); nurture your relationship with them; say NO to sin in their lives – be love to them.

Very often our love for our spouses in the only reflection of Christ’s love for them they will ever get to see.

Be like little children, and don’t hold back in demonstrating love to your spouse!
