Today is day 25 of Jennifer Smith’s 30 day devotional, Wife After God.
A little while ago I wrote a post about looking at two posters. And I have come a far way since writing that post – I am now more readily focusing on the right poster. The poster that reflects the fruit of God’s spirit – the fruit that He wants us to display in this life. However, when I wrote this post, I was thinking about me – how my negativity has affected me and my life. And I was desperate to move away from that negativity, to stop feeling so anxious all the time and move towards peace. Which, by God’s grace, I am doing one step at a time, day by day. However, what I have not considered is the impact on those around me – I was too focused on how I was feeling. But the truth is that those around you will be positively affected by you if you are a positive person. Ever been in the presence of somebody who just uplifts you and makes you feel good? Probably because they are positive people who have a positive outlook on life. And as we nurture the fruit of the spirit in our lives, so we will not only have a positive impact on ourselves, but also on those around us.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
So, imagine the positive impact we can have on our marriage and our spouses by being patient, loving, self-controlled, gentle, kind, faithful, peaceful, joyful and good?
“You will be recognizable by this fruit as they are expressed through your actions. With it comes impact, especially in your marriage. As you do your part and abide in Christ, your husband received the benefit of tasting the goodness of God. This kind of fruitfulness creates an atmosphere of think love, a place where intimacy thrives. You have impact, you have impression you… despite your sins, your faults, and your failures. Abide in Christ and you will experience extraordinary!” (Reference here)
Dear Lord, thank you for the good work that you are busy doing in my, my husband and our marriage. I pray for the grace and strength to live out the fruit of the spirit – every day, but especially in my marriage. I pray for the grace for my husband and I to love each other deeply, and to move closer together in abundance through friendship, through intimacy, through love. I thank you for bringing my husband into my life. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
